ABOUT ABOUT

Sunday the 19th of May is one of the lowest tides of the season and a prime time to harvest seaweed for the year. Come join us on a fun trip across the bay exploring, tasting, and harvesting the local low tide bounty of seaweed varieties.

We will meet at 7:30am at ramp one in the Homer harbor and depart at 8:00 am on the water taxi "Beowulf" for the beds near Nubble Point. Dress for the weather of the day with rubber boots/gloves and bring a knife and plastic bags/onion sacks or small bucket with lid to transport the harvest.

We will be identifying and gathering five or more varieties of edible seaweed as well as discussing and demonstrating methods of drying, storing and cooking. The boat will have us back to the harbor with plenty of day left to set up lines and hang the harvest on your own right away.

$100 fee includes instruction and the round trip water taxi. 12 people maximum. Bring your own lunch.

Course instructor Lasse Holmes is a passionate local wild harvester with over two decades of experience relating with the abundance of plants in the Kachemak Bay area.
